FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Latest Version of StateMate Magnum Adds
VisSim Software to Offer Breakthrough Hybrid System Modeling
Release 2.0 Integrates VisSim with Statemate
MAGNUM 2.0
ANDOVER, MA, August 25, 1999
I-Logix Inc., a leading provider of
enterprise solutions for embedded applications development, today
introduced Statemate MAGNUM 2.0, the latest version of its market-leading
embedded systems design software. Statemate MAGNUM 2.0 offers users
hybrid system modeling with its Continuous Modeler. The Continuous
Modeler is based on Visual Solutions VisSim software, that
has been tightly integrated with Statemate MAGNUM 2.0. The Hybrid
modeling capability significantly broadens the market for Statemate
MAGNUM by enabling it to model continuous and hybrid systems (as
opposed to only discrete systems).
"I-Logix commitment to insure
that Statemate MAGNUM remains the market-leading systems engineering
tool in the automotive and aerospace markets is demonstrated in
this release," said Gene Robinson, president and CEO of I-Logix.
"The addition of the Continuous Modeler brings all the capabilities
needed to completely model any embedded system whether it is primarily
discrete, continuous, or hybrid in nature.
Hybrid Modeling
With its latest release, I-Logix Statemate MAGNUM Continuous
Modeler becomes the first tool to combine the domains of functional
decomposition, discrete behavior, and continuous time behavior to
enable hybrid specifications of complete embedded systems. The nature
of most embedded systems found in the automotive and aerospace industries
is such that an embedded controller is used to interact with both
physical systems and the user. Statemate MAGNUM allows the user
to break the system down into components, and to describe the behavior
of the reactive or logical components of the system or the environment.
With the addition of the Continuous Modeler, the user can also define
the dynamics of the physical elements with which the controller
acts, along with describing any closed loop control equations which
interact with these physical elements. Examples where this capability
is used in the automotive industry include cruise control and power
windows, and in aerospace, for automatic pilot and missile trajectory
systems.
The Continuous Modeler differs from other
hybrid solutions by capturing the entire system behavior through
a top-down approach, rather than only the hybrid algorithms using
a bottoms-up approach. Users can now describe the entire embedded
system with the notation most suitable for the type of behavior
being specified. This can increase productivity by reducing time
spent modeling and simulating the system, reduce costs by finding
errors earlier in the process when rectification is easiest, and
provide greater communication between design team members.
The Continuous Modeler is enabled by VisSim,
a product developed by Visual Solutions, Inc., a pioneer in the
development of Windows-based software for the modeling and simulation
of dynamic systems. After careful evaluation of leading modeling
and simulation packages, I-Logix signed an OEM agreement with Visual
Solutions that allows the integration of VisSim with Statemate MAGNUM
giving I-Logix the right to sell, market, and support this technology.
I-Logix chose Visual Solutions "best-in-class" VisSim
product for its drag and drop block diagram design approach, high-level
model capability, and tight integration with Statemate MAGNUM 2.0
at the modeling, simulation, code generation and documentation generation
levels. Moreover, VisSim has a successful track record, as evidenced
by its recent 1999 Readers' Choice Award from Control Magazine,
with a first place in the Software: Simulation Category.
"We are very excited to be working
with I-Logix as an OEM partner and are proud of the fact they chose
our VisSim software technology for the Statemate MAGNUM Continuous
Modeler," said John Gould, vice president of sales and marketing
at Visual Solutions, Inc. "The top down, integrated hybrid
modeling solution now available with Release 2.0 will help users
get products to market faster and provide greater assurance that
the product will perform as specified. I-Logix position in
the automotive and aerospace markets, combined with a strong sales,
marketing and support organization, makes them an excellent company
to bring this technology to market. We look forward to working with
I-Logix and its customers to make this innovative product a success."
